MUSIC MARKETING and PROMOTION TIP #4: GOING LOCAL
Local radio stations will often have weekend programming that supports and plays music from local bands, i.e. KROQ aka K-ROCK LA hosts Locals Only.
These shows have a loyal and local following and sometimes can propel a local artist into the mainstream.
College radio, Non-Commercial stations, and even national chains have local music shows and want to support bands from the community.
Start researching your stations on the dial, AM and FM, and look up their websites. These local shows will generally have a place on the website that will provide information on how to submit your music for consideration.
Submit your music and be patient, these stations can get a lot of local bands. Playing locally and being listed in local weekly creative loafing publications can give you a leg up.
Be sure to tune into the show when it airs and follow the DJ on social media and get your friends to tune in and request, tweet post!
